The Functional Movement System (FMS) is a screening tool we widely utilize to assess a baseline function for athletes. The assessment consists of seven movements, graded based on quality of movement. This system is commonly used by many athletic organizations. A score greater than 14 significantly reduces your likelihood of incurring non-contact related injuries by approximately 90%.
Being able to assess your athlete’s quality of movement, address potential areas of dysfunction via corrective exercises, and reduce the likelihood of injury is an invaluable tool.
The FMS is based on functional movement patterns that identify limitations in joint stability, mobility and asymmetries. Identifying an athlete's limitations guides the individual's physical therapy and/or training.
Whether for an individual or a team, the FMS works extremely well creating an awareness regarding how each member moves and how that will impact their training.
